December: Restaurants

I know the last thing you guys probably want to after the heavy food-filled Christmas is think about going out for dinner! But nonetheless I thought I would let you know of a couple of great places I ate in in December. Let me know if you give any of these a try – they were all smashing!

London Street Brasserie

2-4 London St, Reading RG1 4PN

I went to this place with my family to celebrate my masters graduation! I have eaten here only a couple of time, but it is known in Reading to be one of the best restaurants in the town centre.

The London Street Brasserie is the second award-winning restaurant by owner and proprietor Paul Clerehugh. Opened in 2000 next to the river Kennet in the heart of Reading, the London Street Brasserie has won both critical acclaim and Michelin recognition and has also been voted restaurant of the year – and serves local produce!

This is what I ate:

Crispy salt & pepper squid, sesame oriental salad, chilli jam

Pan fried sea bass, grilled prawn skewer, roast sweet potato, kale, green beans, lemon parsley butter, crispy capers

Oreo cookie cheesecake, peanut butter ice cream, salted caramel popcorn

Oh My God – every course was divineeeee!! I am not normally a dessert person but this was honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten. If you are ever in Reading you must give it a try.

p.s. they have a sister restaurant The Crooked Billet in Henley-on-Thames

Bar Boulud

Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hyde Park, 66 Knightsbridge, London, SW1X 7LA

A few months back my housemate and I invested in the Time Out ‘Table for Two’: The Burger Box, which allows you 50% off meals for 2 people in 10 burger places across London. We realised just recently that one of the restaurants in the pack was for Bar Boulud located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge! Well we had to go, and a pre-christmas girls dinner was the perfect time!

This is what I ate:

Home-made smoked salmon on a grilled sourdough toast, crème fraîche, capers & fine herbs

Beef patty, bbq pork, jalapeño mayo, red cabbage, cheddar bun

And I tell ya what – it was really super good! The waiters were really friendly and the restaurant itself was so fancy (some of the best restaurant toilets I’ve ever used haha). It is quite pricey though and I don’t think I would have gone without the voucher but if you are in the mood for a real fancy dinner date – this is the place to go!

Lino

90 Bartholomew Close, EC1A 7EB

This place only opened in London in November and we booked a table for our work Christmas dinner. It’s a really cute place with a massive circle bar in the middle and a more relaxed vibe in the ‘Back Room’ based downstairs which has a more relaxed vibe. It’s a really chilled place and I really recommend giving it a try!

*Being a work dinner I couldn’t take any pics !! But I will definitely going again so I WILL take some then 😉 !

This is what I ate:

Burrata, hazelnut sukkah, pear and endive salad

Pork belly, cavolo nero, celeriac and white cabbage choucroute

With triple cooked chips and sweatheart cabbage, butter and lemon on the side (sharing of course!)

P.s. the CHIPSSS though… I judge a place on its chips and these surpassed even my best expectations!

I hope this inspires some of you to try anyone of these great restaurants this month! Let me know, I’d love to hear.

Love, A x
