I thought, with Christmas coming up, most of us will probably spending a few hours travelling, so it might be a good idea to share with you some of my favourite podcasts which are an excellent way to kill some time! The best thing with podcasts is you can download the episodes when you want so are available all the time especially during that undoubted period where you lost phone signal! I bloody love a podcast I listen to them whenever I travel, be it on the tube or walking about. In fact, sometimes I choose to walk places so I can listen for longer!
Being a food blogger, I first and foremost love a food podcast, however if there is anything I love as much as food its ear wigging on people’s conversations (don’t judge!) so my other faves are the more general chit chat ones.
Here are my Top Five:
Desert Island Dishes – the lovely Margie Nomura chats to the most interesting people about the food that have shaped their lives. In amongst the fabulous chit chat where you can learn more about those she is interviewing (which btw she is a total natural at) she intertwines with the desert island questions ranging from first meal ever learnt to cook, favourite sandwich and the final meal you would have before you’re sent off to the desert island! It’s the most wonderful podcast, with so many fascinating guests!
Table Manners – Table Manners is hosted by the brilliant Jessie Ware and her even more hilarious mum Lennie. It’s a great one for conversing about food but also a bit about life. What is so great about this is it’s less interview style and more like earwigging on a catch up between friends, even the editing style leaves in some of the mistakes or cooking stresses and it really makes you feel as if you are there too! Guests have ranged from the likes of Ed Sheeran to Sadiq Khan to Ottolenghi so a real host of people!
The Strong Women Podcast – The Strong Women Podcast is hosted by The Pilates PT and is one of the most inspirational podcasts out there. Hollie is so natural at interviewing it is one of my favourite things to listen to on a jam packed tube as its super calming! Her guests have ranged from Pippa Murray, founder of Pip & Nut, Pip Stewart, adventurer and presenter and Sally Nugent, BBC sports journalist. All her guests have incredible stories to tell and their strength comes physically or mentally. It is a must listen for those who are in need of a little motivation.
The Deliciously Ella Podcast – The Deliciously Ella Podcast is still quite new having only started in the summer, but I know I am not the only one who can’t wait for series 2! Ella is so natural at chatting to her guests and although it is done in an interview style way, it is very much a general chat also. It is also nice to hear from her husband Matt who plays such a key role in Deliciously Ella. The podcast is great because for now, there is no set theme to the episodes just all the things they are interested in, which as avid DE fans, their listeners are no doubt equally as passionate about all these things. Business advice, gut health and cultivating happiness are just three of the episodes in series 1, all totally different but all came with some take-away advice.
Armchair Expert – Dax Shephard is totally hilarious and this podcast is literally like eavesdropping on an hour length conversation between pals discussing their lives and opening up about controversial topics. I am nosey by nature and love knowing the ins and outs of all his fascinating guests, but equally learning about their passions outside of what they were best known from. Guests have ranged from Sophia Bush, Jason Bateman, Ellen DeGeneres and his amazing wife Kristen Bell but also his new series Expert on Expert has seen him chat to Jonathan Haidt, author, moral psychologist and professor and Jerry Buting, American criminal defence attorney and author.
Let me know if you give any a try or love them as much as I do!
Love, A x
